June 24, 2022 our Owner's Rep went to the top to check on things.  Nice view from the tip top!  Amazing to see the copper.  And this is the stage that will take the longest to do.

There's a limited time to see the actual wood that was behind the terne metal.  This week repairs to the wood have been taking place.  Next step is to install water/ice barriers.   The images are of 3-4 different spots from various angles.

The scaffolding is complete. Many parts and pieces! The cross came down and without the base, it is probably the size of a 7 year old Jeanie Lockwood!  The photo is of a 42" high 4 year old, born 150 years after the cross was installed!  Progress being made!

The Story of the Cross on Top

6/8/2022

Excerpt from Emmanuel's History book from 2017..."A bell in the tower carries the inscription "Jennie M. Lockwood, 1867". Information garnered in 1963 tells us that this bell was given in honor of Jane Morrison Lockwood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lockwood, who was seven or eight years old at the time, Emmanuel was built. She was nicknamed Jeanie, and the spelling on the bell is just an error on the part of the Foundry. The metal cross on top of the church was also to be just her height at that time."  During the renovation, we hope to clean the cross on top.  Until we can access the cross we are not sure how it is attached.  So, with care, we will investigate, remove and clean, if possible.
